Lawsuit: Inflatable Jump Bounce Houses Contain 70 Times Safe Level of Lead

Popular at birthday parties and fairs, inflatable bounce houses allow kids to jump and play to their hearts’ content.  I’ve always been concerned about the energy use and hearing damage caused by the blowers on these jump houses, but the Center for Environmental Health (CEH) and the California Attorney General have found that they also “pose lead hazard to children”.

CEH explains:

CEH testing found one bounce house contained more than 70 times the federal limit for lead in children’s products under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. Independent testing commissioned by CEH also showed that lead from bounce houses can expose children to the toxic chemical at levels that violate California law.

It’s the PVC to blame for the lead content in these bounce houses.  This “poison plastic” has prompted the California Attorney General Jerry Brown to file a lawsuit against companies that supply bounce houses.

One mother, Mary Brune, Director of Making Our Milk Safe (MOMS), shares:

I’m horrified by these findings. My daughter just celebrated her 6th birthday with a bounce house party, and we’ve been to at least 7 other bounce house events in the last year.  We parents can’t police all of the places our children visit looking for invisible health hazards. This problem needs to be solved—and soon.

When was the last time your child was in a bounce house?  It was last year at school for my daughter.

It’s been a few months for my kids, but this is making me glad that I early on recognized that kids have lots of fun at birthday parties if you just say “go play.” No bounce houses needed.

If you buy US based Bounce Houses they are Lead Free. If you don’t know as your Vendor to provide the Operating Manual as to where they are made. The ones made in China are the ones you have to worry about.

Party Jump of Northern California has been in this industry for over 15 years and we understand the importance of safety for our customers and for our business.

We have always been selective in choosing the companies that we purchase from. We only choose to work with a handful of companies that have been proven to be reputable and are established in the US.

These companies share the same concerns as Party Jump and realize their reputation is based on quality products that are also safe.

All of our units come certified as “Lead Free.” We have checked with all of the manufacturers that we use and they have further confirmed that these units are “Lead Free” and meet all the strict standards of Proposition 65.

Our family-based company has been a part of our community for years; from coaching Little League to volunteering with our schools, we strive to make a happy family and a healthy community. We will continue to provide the best products available and stay on top of all safety concerns.

Party Interactive rents all kinds of inflatables, bounce houses, bouncers, jumpers, moonwalks, interactive inflatables, giant inflatable slides, jump n slide combos, inflatable water slides, rock walls, mechanic bull, inflatable movie screens, obstacle courses, and even the classic dunk tank. Serving Northern California, Santa Rosa, Marin County, Napa County, Sonoma County, Petaluma, Contra Costa, Windsor, St. Helena, Calistoga and much of the Bay Area.

Most of the toys made in China can lead to adverse health effects. Bounce Houses are no different. There are bounce houses made in the USA, but consumers have to do their research.
